More Details

The School of Mission and Theology.

The School of Mission and Theology is located at the Main Campus Athi River and offers an intensive one-year training program aimed at deepening the understanding of the Bible, discipleship, developing leadership skills, and helping ministers to meet the felt needs of communities and share their understanding of the Christian faith.

Keen on academic excellence, social responsibility, and global engagement, SMT offers a wide range of interdisciplinary programs, including bi-vocational courses, diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programs with a view to building a strong research capacity. SMT uses the collaborative problem-based (PBL) method of instruction to mentor students and develop their capacity in upholding biblical values and principles.

The SMT one-year program uses a Study Guide supported by videos, audios, selected readings, and discussion groups to solve problems.

Course Units include:

  • Creating Understanding
  • Knowing God
  • How to Study the Bible
  • Theology for African Living
  • Knowing My Culture
  • Understanding the Bible
  • Servant Leadership
  • Hidden Conflicts.

Studies are guided by mentors who personalize the instruction.

The one-year program is geared towards equipping mature, competent leaders and will run every year for five years with different groups.

Graduates of the program are expected to raise new leaders to join the program in the pattern of 2Timothy 2:2, “ The things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”

Using this approach, the program envisages to equip close to 100 leaders over the next five years for contexts that remain unreached with the gospel.

The first cohort of 19 students began on 29th April 2024, drawn from diverse professions including Education, Civil Engineering, Law, Veterinary Medicine, Psychology, Social Work, and entrepreneurs.

The overall goal of SMT is to establish excellence in biblical education, foster spiritual growth, and prepare students for careers in Christian leadership, education, and global mission work.
